UPPER MARLBORO, Md., March 13 (UPI) — The Prince George’s County, Md., Police Department said one of its officers was “critically wounded” Sunday after a shooter opened fire near its headquarters.

The department described the incident as a possible “active shooter” situation around 5 p.m. On Twitter, the department told people near the county’s District III station next to headquarters to stay inside and avoid the area.

“Officer critically wounded,” one tweet read. “Palmer Park/Landover residents near Barlowe Rd/Rt 202: Shelter in place. Shooter(s) at large.”

Police shut down Route 202 to traffic near headquarters.
