MEXICO CITY, Nov. 8 (UPI) — The Attorney General for Mexico’s Morelos state said five people have been arrested in connection with the killings of four high school students.
The arrest announcement in relation to the recent killings was made by Morelos Attorney General Javier Pérez Durón on Monday.
“After analyzing all the elements of evidence within the investigation file, five arrest warrants were obtained,” Pérez Durón said during a press conference. “This was because the judge in control determined that there are enough elements to prove the criminal act and the probable participation of these people in this homicide.”
Those arrested have been identified as Luis, Carlos, Ivan, Sergio and Óscar. The students who were killed attended a preparatory school affiliated with the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos.
“We reaffirm our commitment to work with transparency to provide legal certainty in cases we investigate,” the Attorney General’s office said in a statement.
Pérez Durón said authorities had images of the “altercation” that occurred between the “alleged perpetrators.” The bodies of the students were found on Wednesday. Authorities said they died from stab wounds.
“At the appropriate procedural time, we will expand this information, as I have said, with photographic media that will show strong images where the participation of those accused today is credited,” Pérez Durón added.
