BUDAPEST, Hungary, Nov. 18 (UPI) — A spokesperson for Hungarian energy company MOL confirmed Friday that an international arrest warrant for its chairman was canceled by Interpol.

MOL confirmed in a statement sent to UPI that a so-called Red Notice issued by Interpol for Chairman and CEO Zsolt Hernadi was canceled.

“This decision confirms what we’ve been saying all along,” the statement read. “We have repeatedly rejected any suggestion of improper business conduct and we continue to view this case as politically motivated.”

Interpol does not comment on specific cases and the Red Notice issued for the CEO is no longer listed. Croatian authorities brought the case on charges that Hernadi had bribed former Prime Minister Ivo Sanadar in 2009 to get a stronger role in the nation’s energy sector.

According to Bloomberg News, authorities in Croatia will revisit a joint trial against the CEO and the former prime minister, whose poor state of health delayed previous judicial proceedings.

A court official in Croatia told the news agency the trial would resume once Sanader is healthy enough to continue.

MOL controls just shy of a majority of a Croatian energy company.

“We welcome the decision of Interpol, which was adopted following a comprehensive review of the case,” the company said.
