LEADORE, Idaho, May 24, 2016 (Nate Eaton, Gephardt Daily) — Lemhi County Sheriff’s deputies said they have collected new information and evidence in the case of a missing Idaho Falls toddler, according to East Idaho News.
Lemhi County Sheriff Chief Deputy Steve Penner said authorities recently conducted a three-day search of Timber Creek Campground, where 2-year-old DeOrr Kunz, Jr. went missing on July 10, 2015.
The evidence was collected during the intensive search conducted by deputies with the Lemhi County Sheriff’s Office, other sheriff’s offices, search and rescue teams and state and federal agencies.
“Evidence and information gathered during the course of the search will be analyzed and used to drive the investigation forward, and assist in the planning of future searches,” Penner told East Idaho News.
The campground has been closed to the public since mid-April to restrict activity to the area.
DeOrr disappeared while camping with his parents, great-grandfather and a family friend. There have been no signs of DeOrr since he disappeared, and local investigators have said they believe the child was killed, but are were if it was an accident or an intentional act.
Investigators say the boy’s parents, Vernal DeOrr Kunz and Jessica Mitchell, are considered suspects in the case although they have yet to be charged.
Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the evidence collected.
