Dec. 4 (UPI) — Security forces at a military base in Hawaii responded to a shooting Wednesday at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. (5:30 Utah time), prompting forces to lock down the Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, the base said via Twitter.

“Due to the ongoing security incident, access/gates to the [Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam] are closed,” the base said.

The Honolulu Fire Department said firefighters were responding to the shooting.

It is unclear if anyone was injured.

The incident occurred days before the 78th anniversary of the Japanese bombing of the U.S. military base at Pearl Harbor on Saturday when dozens of World War II veterans are scheduled to attend a ceremony.
