June 25 (UPI) — A single-engine plane crashed into an empty daycare Saturday in southwest Florida, killing one person, Lee County Sheriffs officials said.

The Piper PA-28 crashed into the Chicos Daycarebuilding before 8 a.m. in Fort Myers shortly after taking off from Page Field.

One person died at the scene and a second person was transported to a local hospital, Undersheriff Carmine Marceno said. There were no injuries to people on the ground.

The National Transportation Safety Board, FAA and sheriffs office were investigating.
