GLENDALE, Ariz., Feb. 13 (UPI) — Police said the shooting deaths of two 15-year-old girls at Independence High School was a murder-suicide.

A suicide note was found near the bodies of the two 15-year-old students at the school in Glendale, police said.

The girls were found lying next to each other with a weapon next to their bodies in what police believed was a “double shooting” on Friday.

“Although the investigation is not complete, investigators working the case say evidence found at the scene leads them to believe one female took the life of the other female before taking her own life,” police said later in the day.

Gov. Doug Ducey released a statement regarding the shooting as information became available.

“As details of this morning’s tragic shooting continue to be released, our hearts remain with the students, educators and families of Independence High School and the entire Glendale community,” he said.
