NEENAH, Wis., Dec. 5 (UPI) — Homes and businesses were evacuated Saturday morning after a man opened fire at a motorcycle repair shop, sending at least one person to the hospital and holding another hostage.

Police reported a man walked into Eagle Nation Cycles in Neenah, Wis., early Saturday morning, and opened fire. A SWAT team, as well as representatives from six law enforcement agencies in the surrounding area, responded to the situation, according to WITI-TV.

Neenah Mayor Dean Kaufert told reporters there was a volley of shots fired — possibly 30 or more — however police have the scene was made safe and were in the process of “final clearing operations” in the area.

“We believe we have everyone accounted for,” Neenah Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson said. “There is no threat to the community.”

A man who’d sold his motorcycle but changed his mind went into Eagle Nation this morning to retrieve the vehicle, reported the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Eagle Nation owner Steven Erato texted a friend, Cole White, who told the Journal-Sentinel why the gunman had showed up there.

“This this guy came to the shop because he wanted his bike back,” White said, adding the information had been told to him. “He wanted the money and the bike … These people [at Eagle Nation] had nothing to do with the transaction.”

Police told WISN-TV an officer and a citizen had been injured. While the officer is expected to recover, no information on the other person has been released.

The events in Neenah come just days after 14 people were killed and 17 wounded when a Muslim couple opened fire at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California.

The FBI has classified Wednesday’s incident as an act of terror, with reports emerging that the attackers had recently pledged allegiance to the Islamic State jihadist group.
