Dec. 17 (UPI) — A power outage at an airport in Georgia on Sunday afternoon has left thousands of passengers grounded indefinitely.

Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the world’s busiest airport, reported the power outage at about 1:32 p.m., stating it had impacted several areas of the airport.

At 3:28 p.m. the Federal Aviation Administration announced a ground stopfor flights headed to Hartsfield-Jackson, meaning flights headed to Atlanta are held on the ground at their departure airport.

“The FAA Tower can operate normally, however, departures are delayed because airport equipment in the terminals is not working,” the FAA said.

The outage affected the train connecting the terminals and Wifi and cell service weren’t fully operational.

Georgia Power sent repair teams to the scene to work on the issue.

Delta airlines, which is headquartered in Atlanta, said it was aware of the outage and instructed passengers to check the status of their flights.

Hartsfield-Jackson serves approximately 275,000 passengers and averages 2,500 flight arrivals and departures every day, according to the airport.
