WASHINGTON, Oct. 24 (UPI) — President Obama channeled his inner Grumpy Cat when talking about Republican politicians Friday, saying they go out of their way to look for the bad news under his administration.

Obama, speaking to the Democratic National Committee Women’s Leadership Forum, said the GOP is continually painting a grim picture for the future of the United States. He mimicked the popular Internet meme with a sharp grimace, drawing raucous laughter from the crowd.

The GOP, he said, have “constructed this entire separate reality. It’s like the Twilight Zone.”

“Why is it that so many Republican politicians are so down on America?” Obama said. “Have you noticed that? They are gloomy. They’re like Grumpy Cat.”

“Everything is terrible, according to them,” he added. “We’re doomed.”

During his address, Obama went through a list of his administration’s achievements, including improvements in healthcare reforms, environmental issues and the economy, repeatedly calling Republican statements “crazy.” He compared those denying climate change to patients who are told by 99 out of 100 doctors they have high cholesterol.

“Would you say those 99 doctors are crazy and part of a wild-eyed socialist plot to prevent you from eating cheese?” Obama said. “Or would you say, ‘You know what, I bet those doctors know what they’re talking about. I’ve got to modify my diet a little bit.'”

He encouraged the crowd of more than 500 to organize, knock on doors and move the Democratic vote.
