MANHATTAN, New York, Aug. 10, 2019 (Gephardt Daily & UPI) — Jeffrey Epstein, the millionaire financier charged with underage sex trafficking committed suicide in a Manhattan jail cell overnight, according to ABC News.

Epstein, 66, had been jailed since early July after being charged by federal prosecutors with multiple sex trafficking charges, many involving underage girls.

Epstein had been under suicide watch since late last month after he was found “injured” in his Lower Manhattan jail cell. It was unclear at the time if he had attempted to harm himself or had been attacked by fellow inmates.

Federal sources told ABC News Epstein was found unresponsive about 6:30 a.m. Saturday. They say he hanged himself inside his cell.

Epstein was being held without bail on charges of conspiracy and sex trafficking with girls as young as age 14 in the early 2000s at his residences in Manhattan and Palm Beach, Fla.

He pleaded not guilty on July 6 and faced 45 years in prison if convicted.
