KABUL, Afghanistan, June 5 (UPI) — Seven people, including the newly appointed attorney general of Logar Province, were gunned down after an inauguration ceremony at the courthouse Sunday.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the attack was in revenge for the execution of six Taliban prisoners last month by Afghanistan’s government.

Salim Salah, spokesman for the governor of the province, said three insurgents attacked the appeals court building in Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, at 10:30 a.m.

The new attorney general, Akram Nejat, and four other government workers and two civilians were killed. Also, 19 others were wounded, according to Salah.

The attackers were killed after 90 minutes of fighting, Salah said.

Last week, Taliban insurgents attacked a courthouse in Ghazni Province with six people, mostly civilians, killed. On May 25, the Taliaban attacked a minibus carrying workers in Kabul, and 10 officials died.

The U.S. Embassy in Kabul sent an advisory to U.S. citizens to avoid the appellate court area.
