TRENTON, N.J., Nov. 21 (UPI) — A six-alarm fire in Trenton, N.J., fanned by high winds, injured two people, severely damaged nine homes and evacuated an entire block, fire officials said.
The fire was declared under control at 7:15 a.m. on Monday morning, over four hours after it began. Three row houses on Trenton’s narrow Weinberg Place were destroyed and six more are in danger of collapsing. At least three parked cars burned, and downed power lines and the wind hampered firefighters’ efforts.
The extent of injuries of the two people hospitalized was not revealed. One person with asthma, an unidentified woman, was taken to a hospital as a precaution. Public transit buses were brought in, at the request of the fire department, to evacuate those left homeless.
Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire.
