BOWLING GREEN, Va., June 19 (UPI) — Six people were killed and 10 hospitalized in a crash involving a van and a car on Interstate 95 in Virginia on Saturday.

Virginia State Police said the crash occurred just after midnight Saturday on northbound I-95 in Caroline County, about 80 miles south of Washington, D.C., and 50 miles north of Richmond.

A 1998 Dodge van carrying 16 people lost control and traveled across two highway lanes, crashing into a 2016 Toyota Camry and overturning five to six times, police said.

Six passengers in the van died and the van’s other 10 occupants, including the driver, were taken to Mary Washington Hospital and Spotsylvania Regional Hospital with serious injuries. The car’s driver was not injured and none of the van’s occupants were wearing seat belts, police said.

The six who died — four men, one woman and a child — were ejected from the van, police said.

Virginia State Police did not release the identities of those involved.
