Oct. 8 (UPI) — A small plane crash in Front Royal, Va., killed a pilot who had been towing a glider plane, local law enforcement said.

The crash happened Saturday after the Piper PA-25 took off with the glider around 1:35 p.m. The plane lost control after the other aircraft disconnected.

The glider landed without incident.

Virginia State Police said pilot Steven Zaboji, 76, of Reston, Va., died at the scene.

Though the cause of the crash was under investigation, Front Royal Airport manager Reggie Cassagnol told the Royal Examiner that turbulence may have caused the glider plane to rise above the tow plane and jerk the Pipe’s tail upward.
