SAN ANTONIO, April 9 (UPI) — An airman armed with two handguns shot and killed a commander at Lackland Air Force base before turning the gun on himself, officials said.

Pentagon officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said the airman, a technical sergeant, was being escorted to a disciplinary proceeding by a senior non-commissioned officer on Friday morning. The tech sergeant then opened fire in the commander’s office and killed the commander before killing himself. The shooter and the victim have not been identified.

Police were called to the joint base about 8:45 a.m. on Friday where the two men were found dead on the first floor of Forbes Hall, a classroom building.

Brig. Gen. Robert LaBrutta said two Glock pistols were found near the bodies. Both belonged to the shooter, officials said. Weapons are used for training on the base and by security personnel, but personal firearms are not allowed.

Forbes Hall was evacuated after the shooting was reported and security personnel searched the building for an hour before ending the lockdown. Investigators also searched a black Saturn coupe in the parking lot.

No arrests were reported and La Brutta said the shooting was “not a terrorism situation.”
