BAGHDAD, Dec. 9 (UPI) — A suicide bomb attack on a Shiite mosque in Baghdad killed at least 11 people and injured 20 Wednesday, police said.

The Ahlu al-Baiyt mosque, in Baghdad’s al-Obeidi district, was struck by a person wearing an explosives-laden vest, Kuwait’s KUNA news agency reported.

Nearly 13,000 people have been killed in Iraq in violence thus far this year, and more than 23,000 injured, a recent United Nations report said, the country’s highest casualty rate since the sectarian violence of 2006-2007.
