MARDAN, Pakistan, Dec. 29 (UPI) — A suspected suicide bomb attack was carried out at the National Database and Registration Authority government office in Mardan, Pakistan, on Tuesday, killing at least 18 people.

At least 42 people were injured at the attack and were taken to the Mardan Medical Complex and the Mardan District Hospital. The death toll is expected to rise as a large number of people were at the office at the time of the detonation.

“The suicide attacker riding a motorcycle detonated his explosives outside the gate of the NADRA office,” District Police Officer Faisal Shahzad told Geo News.

No group so far has claimed responsibility for the attack. Mardan is 30 miles northwest of Peshawar, capital of the Khyber Pahktunkhwa province, where 150 people were killed — mostly children — in the Peshawar school massacre carried out by the Pakistani Taliban.
