April 13 (UPI) — Tesla Motors, classified this month as the most valuable automaker in the United States, will soon begin making cargo and passenger trucks, the company’s chief said Thursday.

Founder and CEO Elon Musk said via Twitter that an electric semi-truck will be unveiled in a few months — and that a passenger truck will follow.

“Tesla Semi truck unveil set for September. Team has done an amazing job. Seriously next level,” his tweet said.

The automaker will also unveil a passenger truck within 18 to 24 months, he added.

Earlier this month, Tesla passed Ford Motor Company and General Motors in U.S. market value. It is soon expected to begin producing its Model 3, a mid-market vehicle, later this year.

Earlier this week, Tesla investors wrote a letter to the company asking that more independent voices be added to Tesla’s board of directors — a letter than led Musk to respond, “This investor group should buy Ford stock.”
