MIAMI, Oct. 10 (UPI) — Tropical Storm Nicole is expected to strengthen slowly and regain status as a Category 1 hurricane on Tuesday on its path north toward Bermuda.

The National Hurricane Center reported Nicole was 455 miles south of Bermuda, moving north at 6 mph with 60 mph sustained winds and higher gusts. Tropical storm-force winds extend outward 185 miles from Nicole’s center.

Ocean swells being pushed ahead of Nicole will begin creating dangerous surf conditions and rip currents on Bermuda in the next couple of days.

Nicole is forecast to track right over Bermuda as a Category 1 hurricane Thursday morning, packing winds expected to be 90 mph with gusts to 115 mph.

No warnings had been issued.

Nicole has already been a hurricane, but weakened slightly as it meandered for a couple of days.

After possible landfall in Bermuda, Nicole would most likely head out into the open Atlantic, where it would likely dissipate over cold waters.
