Nov. 14 (UPI) — President Donald Trump nominated Tom Homan as the permanent director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement — one of four appointments he sent to Congress Tuesday.
Homan has served for months as the acting director of ICE, but the White House issued a statement confirming he be nominated to hold the position permanently.
Homan has run the agency since former director Sarah Saldaña — a former U.S. attorney in Dallas — stepped down this year when Trump took office.
Homan has been the face of immigration crackdown efforts for the Trump administration and has advocated for increased border security.
Three other nominations were sent Tuesday — including Jason Klitenic for general intelligence counsel; Robert Frank Pence for ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Finland; and Timothy R. Petty as assistant secretary of the interior.
The White House also withdrew the nomination of Timothy Kelly to be assistant secretary for career, technical, and adult education.
Monday, Trump nominated Alex Michael Azar II to be health secretary, saying he “will be a star for better healthcare and lower drug prices.”
