Two missing in plane crash in Lake Pontchartrain near New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, Aug. 28 (UPI) — Two people are missing after a small plane crashed in Lake Pontchartrain near New Orleans, authorities said.

The U.S. Coast Guard and other authorities are searching for the missing people after the crash near Lakefront Airport on Saturday night, according to a release.

One woman who was rescued after the plane crash is undergoing medical care. Her condition is unknown.

On Sunday morning, NOLA.com reported the New Orleans Police Department found the wreckage of the Cessna plane.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report that a Cessna training flight crashed into the water about 8:20 p.m. The Coast Guard sent two rescue boats and a helicopter near the Seabrook bridge.

Working with the Coast Guard in the search are the New Orleans Fire Department and the New Orleans Police Department.

Divers are attempting to find the missing passengers.
