KABUL, Afghanistan, Aug. 8 (UPI) — An American and an Australian — both professors — have been kidnapped by two armed gunmen in Kabul, police said Sunday.

The two men are lecturers for the American University of Afghanistan and were driving through the western part of the city when they were kidnapped. The incident is the latest in a growing resurgence by the Taliban.

One of the attackers smashed his gun barrel through the passenger-side window and pulled the two men out of their vehicle. The body guard and the driver for the two abductees were left uninjured, police said.

The kidnapping comes after a group of six tourists were injured in a rocket attack in western Afghanistan on Thursday. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
