Winter Storm Dumps Snow On New Hampshire Ahead Of Primaries

Snow On New Hampshire

CONCORD, N.H., Feb. 5 (UPI) — A winter storm creeping up the East Coast is expected to dump snow on New Hampshire on Friday and early next week as presidential candidates continue stumping ahead of Tuesday’s primary elections.

A winter storm warning was posted Friday along the coast of New Hampshire, and winter weather advisories were posted for inland areas. The National Weather Service said up to 10 inches is expected in parts of New Hampshire, where most of the candidates had boots on the ground, making last-minute pitches ahead of the primaries on Tuesday.

The heavy snowfall in Nashua, N.H., forced Republican hopeful Donald Trump to cancel a planned event at the Londonderry Lions Club. Rival Jeb Bush was quick to point out his 90-year-old mother was braving the weather.

“My 90-year-old mother made it out to campaign. She met Destiny, age 5,” Bush tweeted, including a picture of former first lady Barbara Bush shaking hands with a young supporter.

The snow is expected to let up by Saturday, only to possibly re-emerge on Monday night. If the winter stays on course, lighter snow will fall on New Hampshire, AccuWeather Meteorologist Brian Edwards said. The National Weather Service said the snowfall could be “moderate to heavy.”

“We’re still talking six or seven days away, but we are seeing some signals on several of the models that we could get a coastal low moving offshore,” said Mike Cempa, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

The snow started in the Boston area, where 10 inches was expected to fall. Thousands were without power Friday afternoon as rain turn into snow.
