Dec. 27 (UPI) — A worker was hurt Wednesday when two subway trains collided in a tunnel undergoing repairs in New York City, officials said.
According to New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the trains did not derail and no passengers were aboard either train at the time of the collision.
A worker was transported from the subway system at 53rd Street and Lexington Avenue in Manhattan after the collision. The MTA said he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
There was no impact on commute, however, when the trains bumped into each other under the East River around 5 a.m. EST.
The cause of the collision is under investigation and it’s unclear whether the accident will delay construction work that was already underway in the tunnel.
The station serves the E and M lines between Manhattan and Queens.
