Crews searching for snowmobiler buried in avalanche in Grand County

GRAND COUNTY, Utah, Jan. 26, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A search is underway for a missing snowmobiler reportedly buried in an avalanche in the La Sal Mountains on Friday.

“Members of his party were unable to locate him and search and San Juan County Search & Rescue was called out,” says a statement from the Grand County Search & Rescue, which posted the message at about 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

“Grand County Search & Rescue is assisting, along with additional resources enroute from Salt Lake City.”

According to the Utah Avalanche Center, the avalanche danger remains considerable in the Moab region.

“The public is asked to refrain from visiting the area for the safety of all concerned,” the SAR post says. “Updates will be posted as they become available.

“If you must travel through the La Sal backcountry please exercise extreme caution and carry a signaling beacon with you in case of emergencies.”
