SEOUL, March 10 (UPI) — A North Korean defector-turned-activist described by Pyongyang’s state-controlled media as “human scum” said on Tuesday he plans to launch balloons containing anti-regime leaflets and 10,000 copies of the Hollywood film “The Interview.”

The Guardian reported the project was partly postponed in January. Instead it will be launched to mark the five-year anniversary of the sinking of the South Korean warship “Cheonan” in 2010, which is March 26.

South Korea’s unification ministry, however, said it remains cautious about the activist’s decision, Yonhap reported.

The South Korean government official said that the activist’s project is legally permissible, but hoped the message of the leaflets reflected South Korean government positions.

Seoul’s unification ministry also said it advised caution against provoking North Korean retribution toward South Koreans who live near the demilitarized zone.

The defector-activist, Park Sang-hak, plans to send 500,000 anti-North Korea leaflets along with the DVDs. But the content of the leaflets is not yet known, The Guardian reported.

Park said he is unable to disclose the exact location and date of the balloon launch.

North Korea has been vocal about Park’s activities, threatening that Park will “pay for his crimes in blood” if copies of “The Interview” cross the DMZ into North Korean territory. The movie starring Seth Rogen and James Franco makes fun of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Park is working with the U.S.-based Human Rights Foundation on the project. According to the organization, Park has sent human rights and pro-democracy literature, DVDs, USB drives, and transistor radios into North Korea.
