UPDATE: Two Officers, Gunman Dead After Michigan Courthouse Shooting

ST. JOSEPH, Michigan, July 11, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Two bailiff officers and the gunman witnesses say shot the victims are dead after an incident Monday in a courtroom in Berrien County, Michigan.

Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey told reporters that a deputy and “several civilians” also were shot, but all are in stable condition at Lakeland Regional Hospital, in St. Joseph.

The incident happened early Monday afternoon on the third floor of the courthouse when a male inmate had or managed to gain control of a gun. Bailey told a local news crew 35 minutes after it began that the situation was under control.

Both of the bailiffs killed were retired police officers, according to authorities.

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder posted a Twitter request for prayers for those shot.
