Barbara Ortiz Howard of New York City wants to fix what she says is wrong with our country’s currency. She says there are no women on the money and is now on a mission to officially  put a woman on our $20 bill.

There are many different women who we are sure are deserving of this honor and Howard, after hours of research, came up with a list of 15 extraordinary women.

While it is an impressive list, Howard seems to be partial to Harriett Tubman, who rescued slaves on the Underground Railroad.

They have decided to give the American public a chance to place their votes on WomenOn20s.com. When they narrow it down to one they plan to ask President Obama to create a new currency.

State Senator James Debakis, (D-Salt Lake), said his first vote would be Eleanor Roosevelt and his second vote would be for Karen Shepard (Former United States House of Representatives).

Our own Bill Gephardt said he would also choose Eleanor Roosevelt.

Those that made the list are :

Shirley Chisholm
Betty Friedan
Susan B. Anthony
Rosa Parks
Sojourner Truth
Frances Perkins
Eleanor Roosevelt
Barbara Jordan
Harriet Tubman
Alice Paul
Patsy Mink
Clara Barton
Elizabeth Cady Stanton
Margaret Sanger
Rachel Carson

President Obama last year received a letter from a young girl who asked if he would put a woman on U.S. currency. He said he thought it was a pretty good idea.

The goal is to have it in circulation by the year 2020 — the 100th anniversary of a woman’s right to vote.

Cast your vote in the unofficial CBS News poll at left. And then go to WomenOn20s.com to vote there.
