Octopus Carries Coconut Shell, Uses it as a Portable Apartment
PARIS, June 3 (UPI) — An octopus was caught on camera doing its best turtle impression by carrying a coconut casing across the ocean floor and climbing inside it for a rest.
The video, shared on YouTube by user Poussin Diver, features the octopus walking across the ocean floor with the coconut shell between its tentacles before stopping and climbing inside the shell for a rest.
The phenomenon of octopuses using coconut shells as tools was first noted in 2009, with one scientist remarking he nearly drowned as a result of laughing the first time he witnessed one of the invertebrates carrying a coconut and using it as a bed.
