ATLANTA, Aug. 26 (Alex Butler) — Matt Ryan has a new backup in town. Rex Grossman will join the Atlanta Falcons quarterback in the locker room this season. Grossman, 35, joins his fourth team since being selected in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears.

Grossman will sign a one-year deal with the Flacons, according to NFL.com. He will be reunited with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, whom he worked with in Washington and Cleveland.

The Falcons had previously used backups T.J. Yates and Sean Renfree.

“Just like at every position, we are happy the two guys we have,” Falcons coach Dan Quinn told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “But when there is a time to come and workout somebody and see where he’s at. See where the players are at and how he can help or improve [the team]. We’re going to look at that at every chance we get.”
