PROVO, Utah, April 22, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid reportedly has agreed to a contract extension that makes him the NFL‘s highest-paid coach and keeps him with the team through 2029.

Reid, who played at BYU in 1978-80 and began his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Cougars in 1982, also is the league’s oldest head coach at 66.

The Athletic reported Reid’s new salary at more than $18 million per year.

“Over the last 11 years, Tammy and I have enjoyed calling Kansas City our home,” Reid said. “The community has embraced us, we’ve watched our family grow, including having all 12 grandkids during our time here. On the field, there have been so many people that have contributed to our success and Super Bowls, and I’m grateful to the players, coaches and staff that have all invested their time into this process. … Chiefs Kingdom is a special place and I’m blessed to have the opportunity to be here.”

The Chiefs announced contract extensions for Reid, team president Mark Donovan and general manager Brett Veach on Monday, though terms of the deals were not disclosed.

“Mark, Brett and Andy have achieved historic success together, and we are thrilled that they will continue in their roles for many years to come,” Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. “Individually, Mark, Brett and Andy each represent the best in the National Football League at their respective positions, and together they make up one of the finest leadership teams in all of professional sports. They have been tremendous leaders for this organization on and off the field, and we look forward to their continued success in the years ahead.”

Reid has led the Chiefs to five Super Bowls, including three victories in the big game. He previously guided the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl in 2004, a 24-21 loss to the New England Patriots.

In his 11 seasons in Kansas City, Reid has led the Chiefs to 10 playoff appearances, eight AFC West titles and four conference championships.

He’s one of only three head coaches in NFL history to make five Super Bowls, joining Bill Belichick (nine), Don Shula (six) and Tom Landry (five).

Since 2017, Reid, Donovan and Veach have overseen a Chiefs team that has gone 100-34 (.746) in the regular season and postseason, winning seven consecutive AFC West Division Championships, four AFC titles and three Super Bowls. The Chiefs also have advanced to six-consecutive AFC Championships, hosting an NFL record five-straight from 2018 to 2022.
