Paris to Bid for 2024 Olympics
June 23, 2015 (The Sports Network) — Paris has launched a big to become the host city for the 2024 Olympics.
The French capital made it official on Tuesday, announcing its candidacy on Olympic Day, which was introduced in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on June 23, 1894 in Paris.
Paris previously hosted the Olympics in 1900 and 1924. The city lost bids to host the 1992, 2008 and 2012 Games.
France also came up short in a bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics and last played host in 1992 at the Winter Games in Albertville.
Boston, Rome and Hamburg have also announced intentions to bid for the 2024 Olympics. The actual bid commitments aren’t due until Sept. 15.
