Utah Jazz to showcase young talent at ’24 Salt Lake City Summer League

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 2, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Six players selected by Utah in the 2023 and 2024 NBA drafts are expected to suit up for the Jazz next week in the 2024 Salt Lake City Summer League.

The Jazz’s 2024 NBA Draft picks — Cody Williams (No. 10), Isaiah Collier (No. 29) and Kyle Filipowski (No. 32) — are among the 16 players on Utah’s summer league roster.

They’ll be joined by 2023 NBA Draft picks Taylor Hendricks (No. 9), Keyonte George (No. 16) and Brice Sensabaugh (No. 28), as well as Walker Kessler, the No. 22 overall pick in 2022.

Williams, a 6-foot-8, 190-pound forward, played one season at Colorado, averaging 11.9 points, three rebounds and 1.6 assists while shooting 55.2% from the floor and 41.5% from 3-point range.

Collier, a 6-3, 210-pound guard from USC, averaged 16.3 points, 4.3 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.5 steals while shooting 49% from the floor and 34% from 3-point range as a freshman with the Trojans.

Filipowski, a 6-11, 230-pound forward/center, averaged 15.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.1 blocks per game, while shooting 47.3% from the floor, 31.4% from 3-point range and 71.8% at the free throw line as a two-year starter at Duke.

George had the best rookie season of the Jazz’s 2023 NBA Draft picks, averaging 13 points, 4.4 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 27 minutes per game. The 6-4, 185-pound guard saw action in 75 games his rookie season and scored a career-high 33 points — hitting 9 of 16 3-point attempts — against the Golden State Warriors on Feb. 15.

Hendricks, a 6-9, 210-pound forward, averaged 7.3 points and 4.6 rebounds in 40 games, while Sensabaugh, a 6-6, 235-pound guard/forward, added 7.5 points and 3.2 rebounds in 32 games for the Jazz in 2023-24.

Kessler, a 7-foot, 245-pound center, averaged 8.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game in 23.3 minutes per game in 2023-24. The former Auburn big man’s numbers dipped slightly from his 9.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 23 minutes per game as a rookie in 2022-23.

Utah’s summer league squad will be coached by Jazz assistant Sean Sheldon, who joined head coach Will Hardy’s staff in 2022. Sheldon served as an assistant coach for the Finnish National Team during the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Prior to joining the Jazz, the Traverse City, Michigan, native spent five seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, working as head video coordinator, assistant video coordinator and quality assurance assistant.

Sheldon previously served as a video analyst (2018-20) and player enhancement coach (2021-22) with the Boston Celtics. He was an assistant coach for the NBA G League’s Maine Red Claws in 2017-18.

Sheldon played professionally in Switzerland in 2016-17 after a four-year collegiate career at William & Mary. 

The Jazz open their three-game summer league schedule against the Memphis Grizzlies at 7 p.m. Monday at Delta Center.

Utah will face the Oklahoma City Thunder at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, and close out the summer league vs. the Philadelphia 76ers at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 10.
