CEDAR CITY, Utah, June 13, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Police say a man was critically injured during a road rage shooting Wednesday afternoon in downtown Cedar City that sent another man to jail.

Witnesses told police two men were involved in a physical altercation about 3:30 p.m. near Main Street and Center Street.

Both then drove away — one in a car and the other on a motorcycle — and the motorcycle was “aggressively following” the car, according a probable cause statement filed in Cedar City’s 5th District Court.

The motorcyclist later shot the driver of the car near the intersection of Fiddlers Canyon Road and Main Street, then fled into a residential area, Cedar City police said.

The injured driver was transported by medical helicopter to St. George Regional Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

The motorcyclist, identified as Jason Bryan Stolworthy, 46, was later arrested and booked into the Iron County Jail.

Officers obtained cellphone video that showed the driver of the car walking toward Stolworthy, who then pulled out a gun and fired several shots, the affidavit says.

Police later found Stolworthy at his home nearby attempting to load the motorcycle into the back of a truck, arrest documents say. A handgun was located in the driveway nearby, police said.

Stolworthy also had “fresh blood on his face,” the affidavit says.

When Stolworthy saw police, he “put his hands on his head” and surrendered, according to arrest documents.

He was arrested for investigation of:

  • Felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, a first-degree felony
  • Aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony
  • Obstruction of justice, a second-degree felony
  • Two counts of reckless endangerment, a class A misdemeanor
  • Reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor
