GRAND COUNTY, Utah, July 15, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Three people, including an infant, were killed in a head-on crash Sunday afternoon in Grand County.
A white Chevy Suburban was traveling south on U.S. 191 about 6 miles south of Crescent Junction at approximately 12:16 p.m. when it crossed into northbound traffic “at a high rate of speed” and hit a motorhome pulling a GMC Canyon head-on, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
The driver of the Suburban, Derik Hurst, 31, and two passengers, Shandi R. Hurst, 28, and a 1-month-old girl — all of Mancos, Colorado — were killed in the crash.
Two additional passengers in the Suburban and two occupants of the motorhome were transported to local hospitals for treatment, according to UHP.
Troopers are investigating impairment as a contributing factor in the crash.
