WEST JORDAN, Utah, Sept. 7, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 2-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital Friday night after he was hit by a car while he played outside with his siblings.

West Jordan Police Lt. Jeremy Robertson told Gephardt Daily the call reporting the auto-pedestrian accident came in at about 6:30 p.m., and when officers arrived, they found the injured child with one of his parents.

Robertson said that as medical personnel were transporting the little boy to Primary Children’s Hospital by ground ambulance, his condition worsened and he was taken straight to Intermountain Medical Center and then flown by LifeFlight to Primary Children’s.

The incident happened while the child and his siblings were playing at the condominium complex at 1833 W. 7600 South.

A car that was backing out hit the child, Robertson said, and the adult female driver stopped and got out of the vehicle; however, someone — possibly one of the boy’s older siblings — picked him up and took him home. At that point, the woman drove away.

Robertson said officers on scene spoke with witnesses and were able to identify the driver. They went to her residence and found the vehicle, but the woman wasn’t at home. Robertson said officers did speak with someone who was home at the time.

When the driver learned that the police were looking for her, she returned to the accident scene and was cooperative.

Robertson said the boy’s condition improved during the evening, and he’s expected to fully recover. He said the hospital would be keeping the child overnight.

The accident is still under investigation and no further details were available late Friday.
