PERRY, Utah, July 20, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 3-year-old girl died Saturday when she became separated from her family and was accidentally run over by a car backing out of a parking space in a movie theater parking lot.

Perry City Police Chief Scott Hancey said the tragic accident happened at about 2:46 p.m. in the parking lot of the Walker Cinemas 8 theater, at 1776 S. Highway 89.

He said the family had seen “The Lion King,” and the girl wandered off.

“While the parents were inside the theater looking for her, she managed to escape into the parking lot,” Hancey told Gephardt Daily.

A driver backing out of a space couldn’t see the child and backed over her.

The girl was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Brigham City, where she was pronounced deceased.
