MIDVALE, Utah, July 3, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A 3-year-old boy was in serious condition late Sunday afternoon after he was hit by a car in the area of River Gate Drive (990 West) and View Park Drive (6950 South).

Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke said the accident happened at 4:30 p.m. when a Mazda SUV was traveling southbound on River Gate Drive. The child darted out into the street and the 53-year-old female driver didn’t have time to stop.

Lohrke told Gephardt Daily the boy sustained a head injury and Unified Fire Authority transported him to Primary Children’s Hospital in serious condition.

UPD posted on Twitter Monday afternoon the child does not have a brain injury or broken bones. “Just a good size laceration on his head,” the tweet said.

The Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART) was called to the scene, Lohrke said, but speed doesn’t appear to have been a factor in the incident. He said witnesses told police the Mazda appeared to be driving at the posted 25 mph speed limit.

Lohrke said that section of River Gate Drive is a high-density apartment/condominium area with a lot of traffic and parked vehicles.
