FORT WORTH, Texas, Feb. 26, 2016 (UPI) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie endorsed Republican front-runner Donald Trump on Friday during his first public appearance since dropping out of the presidential race.
Christie appeared with Trump at a rally in Fort Worth, Texas, Friday morning to offer his support to the real estate mogul.
Christie called Trump the “clear standout.”
The move comes as Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., intensifies attacks against Trump. Christie and Rubio sparred several times on the debate stage before Christie dropped out earlier this month.
Members of Rubio’s campaign have reportedly tried to meet with Christie since then.
