BOISE, Idaho, July 1, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Boise Police are investigating an incident in which nine people were stabbed at an apartment complex on Wylie Lane and State Street on Saturday night.

Officers were dispatched at 8:46 p.m. on a call about a man with a knife, a police news release states.

When police arrived at the apartment complex, they found the suspect within a few minutes and took him into custody as he was heading north near the apartments.

Other officers located nine victims inside and outside of the apartments and immediately rendered first aid.

The victims were taken to a local hospital, where four of them were being treated for life-threatening injuries.

According to the news release, the victims include members of Boise’s refugee community. Boise Police victim-witness coordinators and counselors will be assisting the families and witnesses “in the days and weeks ahead.”

“As you can imagine the witnesses in the apartment complex along with the rest of our community are reeling from this attack,” Police Chief William Bones said in the release.  “This incident is not a representation of our community but a single evil individual who attacked people without provocation that we are aware of at this time. Our hearts go out to the victims who are in the hospital tonight, please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers.”

The suspect, a 30-year-old man, was being interviewed by Boise Police detectives later Saturday night, and officers were still trying to determine why he targeted the victims.

Garden City Police, Ada County Sheriff’s Deputies, Idaho State Police, and Boise Fire and Ada County Paramedics are assisting, the release said.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
