OGDEN, Utah, Sept. 28, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A day after Habitat for Humanity crews learned that someone had stolen $5,000 worth of donated tools being used to build two homes in Ogden, the nonprofit organization had most of its money back in crowdfunding donations.

A post went up on the GoFundMe website, explaining what had happened:

“As of September 27th, we found out that someone jumped the fence at our Habitat Home build and robbed $5,000 worth of tools. These tools were donated by generous people of the community and were being used to build our Habitat Homes for two families in need of a safe place to live.”

Habitat for Humanity of Weber and Davis Counties had been building two new homes on Ogden’s 30th Street. The organization strives to “create a world where everyone has a decent place to live,” the post says. “We work with local low-income families with repairing and building homes so that they may have a place to call home.”

But the theft of the tools stopped construction.

“Without these tools, we are now behind on our construction for these homes,” the post says. “These are some unfortunate events to happen to our nonprofit. We hope you will join us to raise funds so that we may continue to build safe homes for families in need.”

The GoFundMe page set a goal of raising $5,000, and by day two, had raised $5,225. To see the current total or read more about the campaign, click here.
