COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah, Nov. 9, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Four apartments were damaged in a Friday morning fire, and 20 more were cleared for multiple hours as a precaution after a blaze in Cottonwood Heights.

The call came in just after 3:30 a.m. with a woman saying her apartment was on fire, said Keith Garner, spokesman for the Unified Police Department.

Two engines and several additional medical vehicles were sent to the scene.

“Upon arrival about five minutes later, she was being evacuated with the help of police,” Garner said. “They ran her to the hospital, just to be cautious, find out if there was anything going on.” The woman was treated for smoke inhalation, he said.

“Once we got here, there was a two-unit fully involved fire, then two adjacent apartments that had people that were trying to evacuate.

“We threw a ladder up to one of the third-story apartments and pulled off at least five people. From there, we were able to run in and put out the fire.”

Two apartments were a total loss, Garner said, and two had just smoke damage.

All of the buildings’ 24 units were evacuated as a precaution, Garner said, adding that all tenants might be kept away for as long as 24 hours while the investigation and various safety checks were conducted.
