WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, March 12, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — One person was reported to be in critical condition after a crash at 4500 S. Mountain View Corridor on Monday night.

The accident happened at about 6:50 p.m., and closed southbound Mountain View Corridor.

The 53-year-old male driver of the cargo van was transported to the hospital in critical condition, West Valley City Police Lt. Amy Maurer told Gephardt Daily.

Maurer said the 62-year-old male driver of the pickup truck was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Neither man’s injuries were considered life-threatening, she said.

The crash occurred when the van entered the highway going in the wrong direction, traveling northbound in the southbound lanes, Maurer said.

The drivers were the only people in the vehicles, and their names have not been released. Maurer said both vehicles had Utah plates.

Utah Department of Transportation is advising drivers to use an alternate route while the southbound highway is closed.

Maurer said the highway was closed from about 4100 South, but crews were in the process of clearing the scene.

The crash is still under investigation.

Gephardt Daily will update this developing story as more information becomes available.

  1. I know that people should know if they are traveling down the wrong side of this stupid road but Let’s face it, people don’t pay attention. How many people have to get injured or killed on this roadway before our state officials step up and just finish it and build the freeway already. I’ve seen many people almost turn and go the wrong way and most people are cruising at about 75-80 mph crossing through intersections. This road is a deathwish. Instead of spending 50 million on new stickers for UTA, how about spending that $$ on fixing the west side roads. It’s ridiculous!
