Police Identify Body Found Near Mouth Of American Fork Canyon

UTAH COUNTY, Utah, July 18, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Lone Peak Police Department has identified the body of a man found by teen hikers Sunday afternoon near the mouth of American Fork Canyon.

The LPPD confirmed 28-year-old Nicholas Goering, of Highland, was found at about 4 p.m. at a trail near 11100 Shoreline Drive in Highland. The teens who found the man were sliding down an old water pipe, and when one of them got to the bottom, she noticed the man.

Goering had not been reported as missing, and police said it appears he had been deceased two or three days.

No foul play or suicide is suspected. Police believe he may have died in an accidental fall, but will need to wait for the autopsy to be complete in order to provide more details.
