WEST JORDAN, Utah, Nov. 17, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 10-year-old boy was LifeFlighted to the hospital Saturday night after he was hit by a vehicle as he was crossing a street.

Officer Jennifer Worthen, West Jordan Police Department, told Gephardt Daily there was a Little League event at Ascent Academies West Jordan campus, at 5662 8200 South.

Shortly before 7 p.m., as the boy was in the crosswalk with his father and 7-year-old brother, he was struck by a van and suffered head trauma, Worthen said, adding, “That’s the only injury we know of now.”

The father and younger brother were not injured.

Worthen said only the driver was in the van, and that person is cooperating with police.

Later in the evening, Worthen said the boy was reported to be in stable condition, awake and alert. He has some soft-tissue damage and possibly some broken bones.

The incident is still under investigation, and the Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team was called to the scene.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
