DALLAS, Texas, Oct. 20, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — First responders in Dallas, Texas, say dozens of homes and businesses were heavily damaged when a tornado touched down early Sunday night and carved a 17-mile path of destruction on the city’s north side.
According to the National Weather Service, the twister touched down at 9:48 p.m. near Love Field and the Preston Hollow area, ripping the roofs off homes and knocking out power to 80,000 residents.
Local media outlets are reporting that a large structure collapsed near where the tornado touched down. Seven people reportedly escaped from the building, but there are fears that others remain trapped inside.
The heaviest damage is being reported throughout north Dallas, especially in the Preston Hollow area and near Love Field airport.
Emergency personnel are also responding to reports of injuries at shopping centers near Walnut Hill and Marsh Lanes on Dallas’ northwest side.
There are multiple reports of people being injured by flying glass.
There are also reports of multiple gas leaks in the hardest hit areas.
There have been no reports of fatalities, but search and rescue efforts are still just getting underway.
