Child sledding in driveway slides into road, is struck, killed in Idaho

MCCALL, Idaho, Dec. 22, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A child sledding down a driveway in McCall, Idaho, was struck by a car on the roadway, and has died.

The accident happened at 1:27 p.m. Friday on Lake Ridge Drive, according to a statement from the Idaho State Police.

“Susan McCandless, 58, of McCall, was traveling Southbound on Lake Ridge Drive driving a 2018 Land Rover Velar,” the statement says. “Two juveniles were sledding down a driveway, when one of the juveniles went out into the road into the path of McCandless’ vehicle.

“McCandless attempted to come to a stop but was unable to and the juvenile was struck. The juvenile was transported by ground ambulance to St. Luke’s in McCall where they succumbed to their injuries. McCandless was not injured and was wearing her seatbelt. Notifications have been made.”

Police have released no additional information about the age or gender of the victim.

McCall is about 108 miles north of Boise.
