Update: Officials say arson is cause of new Summit County Tervels Fire

ECHO CANYON, Utah, Sept. 3, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Fire crews are battling a new wildfire in Summit County on Monday.

An update from Utah Fire Info states that a fire investigator has determined the cause to be arson.

The Tervels Fire, which sparked at about 2 p.m. east of the Echo Reservoir, 6.5 miles northeast of Coalville, covers more than 350 acres and is zero percent contained, according to the update.

“Summit County resources arrived quickly and more resources were ordered. Echo Creek Ranches area is under a pre-evacuation order,” Utah Fire Info said.

Resources currently working this fire are 17 engines, four single engine air tankers, two heavy air tankers, two helicopters, and one helitack crew.

One lane of eastbound Interstate 80 is closed from mile markers 169 to 171.

“The fire will be monitored throughout the night,” the update said. “Ground crews and air resources will continue full suppression efforts (Tuesday).”

Anyone driving in the area is urged to be cautious and not stop on roads.

Officials said smoke will be visible from Ogden Valley, Coalville, Evanstan,Wyoming and other surrounding areas.
