WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, June 23, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — New details have been released in the arrest of a Herriman landlord charged with the stabbing attack of his tenant in West Valley City.
Manhdrake Van Dang, age 48, has been booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on charges of attempted murder and aggravated burglary.
Dang “entered the home of the victim without permission and stabbed the victim with a knife, causing serious injury,” says a probable cause statement filed Friday.
“The victim stated that after being stabbed, Mahndrake fired a round from a firearm at him, and fled the scene. Witnesses identified Manhdrake as the perpetrator of the crime and landlord of the property.”
Police were called to the scene, at 2059 W. Apple Farms Road, just after 3 a.m. Friday, Sgt. Scott Arnold, West Valley City Police Department, told Gephardt Daily. The call — made by someone in the victim’s house, was for the shot fired, but the bullet had not hit anyone.
There was no sign of forced entry, Arnold said.
The victim, who had been sleeping in the basement, suffered stab wounds to the head and arm. He was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
“Officers apprehended Manhdrake in his vehicle shortly after the incident,” the probable cause statement says. “Officers reported seeing a knife and blood in Mandrake’s vehicle, corroborating the victim’s and witnesses’ statements.
“Manhdrake refused an interview and asked for a lawyer.”
The officer who wrote the probable cause statement advised against bail for Dang, saying “this person would constitute a substantial danger to any other person or the community, or is likely to flee the jurisdiction of the court.”
